Guiding Vision
This program is a partnership among parent, student, instructor, and HTS administration and offers home schooling families both academic and elective classes that meet one to two days per week. Academic excellence is the standard-not the ultimate goal. Character and heart issues are at the core of the academic program. Academics are the worthy tool for revealing both so that biblical encouragement and/or admonishment can occur.
Class Categories
Core Classes
Transcript-worthy classes that require quality preparation and effort on the part of the student. Homework, quizzes, tests, and papers are given. Students learn how to think critically and become independent learners--skills vital for success in life. Includes subjects such as Math, Science, Grammar/Composition, Foreign Languages, etc. Each class syllabus will describe the participation of the parent with the student.
Elective Classes
Classes that provide a valuable and important adjunct to academics. These courses (such as art, drama, and physical education) enable the student to develop an integrated education while continually pursuing excellence in all endeavors. Each class syllabus will describe the participation of the parent with the student.
Goals
- To provide support and resources that help parents more effectively integrate academics into the overall discipleship and character development of their children.
- To assist and support parent(s) in achieving educational goals and academic excellence while developing independent learners.
- To enhance and support the family's ability to successfully home school their children through the high school years
Non-Negotiable Guiding Principles
HTS' mission is to equip and encourage parents to teach and train their children.
These classes do not constitute a school. All classes are designed to be a partnership among parent, instructor, student, and administration. These relationships can be further strengthened through shepherding.
Character development is our primary concern no matter what class the student is in because character is crucial for effective service to God. When problems occur, they will be dealt with biblically. This will require cooperation among instructor, parent, administration, and student to deal with offenses within the biblical process outlined in Matthew 7 and Matthew 18:15-20.
Success (i.e. biblical excellence) is not measured by a grade (product) but by faithfulness (process) to biblical principles as they are learned and applied in all endeavors (including academics), with the end product left to the sovereign grace of God.
Biblical principles are the standard by which all issues are measured and dealt with.
Respect, honor, and integrity are values that will not be compromised.
